Most of our Lakewood Ranch design work starts the same way: a new or nearly new home, generously sized, competently finished, and completely anonymous. The plan is shared with dozens of others in the community.
The work is not fixing anything — nothing is broken. It is giving a well-built box the proportion and personality that a builder specification, by definition, cannot.
The volume problem
Ceilings here are tall and great rooms are open, which makes standard-height furniture look lost. The fix is rarely more pieces — it is larger ones, plus something that occupies the vertical space: drapery taken to the ceiling, oversized art, or a light fixture with real presence.
Get the scale right and the room stops feeling like a lobby. Get it wrong and no amount of accessorising rescues it.
The specifics vary by village. Country Club and Lakewood National homes tend to be the largest and the most formal; Esplanade and Del Webb run smaller and more open, where over-furnishing is the usual mistake; Waterside Place attracts buyers who want something more contemporary than the rest of the Ranch; Greenbrook and Lorraine Lakes are family plans where the flex room decision matters most.
Elevating a builder specification
You do not need to rip anything out. The highest-return moves in these homes are consistently the same ones.
- Replace the builder lighting. It is the single clearest signal of a standard specification and the easiest to change.
- Add ceiling or wall detail in one room — trim, beams, or millwork read as architecture rather than decoration.
- Take window treatments to the ceiling line, not to the top of the window.
- Commit the flex room to one purpose so the plan stops feeling generic.
The lanai is a room
In this climate the outdoor living space is used more than the formal dining room, and in Lakewood Ranch it is often the largest under-furnished area in the house. Treated as a genuine room — proper seating, shade, lighting, and an outdoor rug — it changes how the whole house lives.

FAQ
Interior Design in Lakewood Ranch: questions, answered.
Can you help if I am not selling my house?
Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. Interior design and decorating for people staying in their homes runs from a single room refresh to a whole-house furniture plan, working with the pieces you want to keep.
How long does an interior design project take?
A single-room refresh using available pieces can be finished in a few weeks. A whole-house furniture plan is usually a few months, because custom upholstery and case goods carry real lead times. We give you the schedule with the proposal so you are not guessing.
Do I have to replace everything I own?
No. Most projects keep more than the homeowner expects. Tell us what you love or cannot part with and we design around it — the pieces we replace are usually the ones that are the wrong scale for the room rather than the wrong style.
My new home feels like a builder box. Where do we start?
Lighting and scale. Replacing builder fixtures and getting the furniture proportion right for tall volumes changes more than any other pair of decisions, and neither requires construction.
Do I need to change anything structural?
Almost never. Ceiling detail or millwork in a single room gives the architecture something to say, and everything else is furniture, lighting, and window treatments.
What about the lanai?
Treat it as a room, because in this climate you will use it more than the dining room. Proper seating, shade, lighting, and an outdoor rug make it the best space in most Lakewood Ranch houses.
