A seasonal home has an unusual brief. It sits empty through the humid half of the year, then has to feel completely ready within an hour of you walking through the door — often with family arriving the same week.
That changes what we specify. Materials that tolerate being closed up, storage that locks, and a furniture plan built around the way the house is actually used: a few intense months, then nothing.
What we hear most
The situations snowbirds & seasonal owners come to us with.
You bought it furnished and none of it is yours
The most common starting point. We keep whatever is the right scale, replace what is not, and stop the house feeling like a rental you happen to own.
Everything has to arrive before you do
We take delivery, install, and photograph the finished rooms so you can approve remotely. You land to a finished house rather than a garage full of boxes.
It has to survive the off-season
Closed-up Florida houses are hard on textiles and unsealed wood. Specification does most of the work here — the rest is a short close-up routine we leave you.
You may rent it when you are not here
That is a different specification again. If the plan is seasonal rental income, tell us at the start and we design for both uses rather than retrofitting later.
Designing for eight months away
The difference between a seasonal home that ages well and one that does not is almost entirely in what was specified on day one.
- Performance textiles throughout, not just where you expect spills.
- Sealed or engineered surfaces rather than raw wood, which finds humidity every time.
- One lockable storage area so personal items stay put between seasons.
- Window treatments that protect the furniture as well as the privacy.
- A furniture plan that works for two people, since that is the actual daily occupancy.
“Three days after staging was done, we went pending and secured a great offer. The buyers wanted to make sure that no one else came in and swooped it from them. It was a great investment on my seller’s part, and I am glad that I trusted Purposely Placed to do the staging. It paid off for my sellers tenfold!”

Snowbirds & seasonal owners — questions, answered.
Can you help if I am not selling my house?
Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. Interior design and decorating for people staying in their homes runs from a single room refresh to a whole-house furniture plan, working with the pieces you want to keep.
How long does an interior design project take?
A single-room refresh using available pieces can be finished in a few weeks. A whole-house furniture plan is usually a few months, because custom upholstery and case goods carry real lead times. We give you the schedule with the proposal so you are not guessing.
Do I have to replace everything I own?
No. Most projects keep more than the homeowner expects. Tell us what you love or cannot part with and we design around it — the pieces we replace are usually the ones that are the wrong scale for the room rather than the wrong style.
Which areas do you serve?
Sarasota, Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, Venice, Siesta Key, Longboat Key, Anna Maria Island, St. Petersburg, and the surrounding Florida Suncoast. If you are just outside that list, ask — we travel for the right project.
Who will I actually be working with?
Betsy Mincey, the owner, runs every project personally — she does the walkthrough, builds the design, and is on site for the install with her team. You are not handed off to a rotating account manager.
