Two briefs dominate our Venice design work, and they are closely related. Someone has downsized into a smaller home and needs their furniture to fit a completely different plan and a completely different light. Or someone owns the house seasonally and needs it to look after itself while they are away.
Both are editing problems as much as design problems, and both are easier if we are involved before the moving truck is booked.
The edit comes before the purchase
Almost everyone moving to Venice brings too much furniture, and much of it was chosen for a house with different proportions and much weaker light. Laying your existing pieces into the new plan before the move usually reveals that a third of it was never going to work.
That single exercise saves more money than any purchase decision that follows, and it stops a new home starting out crowded.
Where you have landed matters too. The Island of Venice and Venice Gardens are older and smaller-roomed, so scale is the constraint; Nokomis and South Venice vary widely house to house; Wellen Park and Jacaranda West are newer and more open, where the risk is under-furnishing a large volume rather than over-filling a small one.
Furnishing a home that sits empty
A seasonal house has a specification of its own, and it is mostly about what survives being closed up through a humid summer.
- Performance textiles throughout, not only where you expect spills.
- Sealed or engineered surfaces rather than raw wood, which finds humidity every time.
- Window treatments that protect the furniture as well as the privacy.
- One lockable storage area so personal things stay put between seasons.
Northern colours in Florida light
A palette that felt warm in Michigan can read washed out or oddly yellow here — this light is brighter and comes off water and pale paving. It is why a colour consultation is often the first thing we do for a relocating client, before a single piece of furniture is chosen.

FAQ
Interior Design in Venice: questions, answered.
Can you help if I am not selling my house?
Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. Interior design and decorating for people staying in their homes runs from a single room refresh to a whole-house furniture plan, working with the pieces you want to keep.
Do I have to replace everything I own?
No. Most projects keep more than the homeowner expects. Tell us what you love or cannot part with and we design around it — the pieces we replace are usually the ones that are the wrong scale for the room rather than the wrong style.
Do you do paint colour consultations on their own?
Yes. A colour consultation is a standalone visit where we walk the house, look at how your light actually behaves through the day, and leave you with specific paint selections. It is the cheapest way to buy back a room that has never felt right.
We are downsizing. When should we involve you?
Before the movers are booked. We measure the new rooms and lay your existing furniture into the plan first, which regularly shows that a third of it was never going to fit — and saves you paying to move it.
How do you furnish a home we only use in winter?
Specified for eight months of being closed up: performance textiles, sealed surfaces rather than raw wood, protective window treatments, and one lockable storage area for personal items between seasons.
Why does our furniture look wrong here?
Usually the light rather than the furniture. Florida light is brighter and bounces off water and pale paving, so colours chosen further north can read washed out or yellow. That is often a paint conversation before it is a furniture one.
